Frequently Asked Questions:

Why buy a Jordan Valley Started Dog?

bulletThe hard work of "basic training" is complete and the dog is coming of age. It’s been expertly nurtured, trained, conditioned and socialized right here at Jordan Valley.
bulletOur started prospects are handpicked from our breeding program to become part of our Started Dog Program. They must be solid performers in all vital areas or they don't qualify. Temperament must be rock solid.
bulletThe "puppy stage" is behind you.
bulletWith a Started Dog you get a maturing animal and you see firsthand how that dog performs! Hopefully this can be accomplished through a personal visit to our kennel.

What you can expect of a Jordan Valley Started Dog:

bulletTo be Fully Socialized and Crazy about Birds!
bulletTo respond to selected Voice or Whistle Commands
bulletTo come to you when called
bulletTo walk calmly on lead
bulletTo Hup/Sit/Stay on command
bulletTo readily mark and retrieve a fallen bird or thrown bumper.
bulletTo Sit in front of you and gently deliver to hand
bulletTo be completely conditioned to gunfire

         In addition:

bulletEvery Jordan Valley Started Dog is "bench trained" so that they will not drop birds or training bumpers
bulletStarted dogs are usually 7 months old or older.
bulletWe orient each new owner so that you can get the most from your new partner! The transition is a very important time and we support you through it. We provide support over the lifetime of your dog.
bulletWe train each of our dogs to go to their "place".  This is very handy in the house when guests are present and you want the pup to stay put.

How do you price your dogs?

bulletPrices for Started Dogs vary depending on the level of training they have received and other factors. By the time this dog is ready we have significant number of hours of preparation time invested in the pup.

Maybe I should just buy a puppy?

We can set you up to do just that, however consider the following:

bulletOnce you obtain a puppy, you are usually one year away from taking that dog hunting.  Our started dogs are ready to take hunting right away.
bulletIf sought, professional assistance is expensive. Most Professional Trainers require $500+/month for their services.
bulletThe cost of food, shelter and veterinary during the first year can be significant.
bulletYour time - If you go it alone, plan on devoting over 100 hours to training, conditioning and nurturing your new pup.
